Mezcal Escorpion® is led by founder and Maestro Mezcalero Douglas French and Maestras Mezcaleras Elsa Arguelles Sanchez and Erika Aquino Aguilar. French created a seed bank of wild and rare mezcals in 1997 and has nursed, grown, harvested, and replanted these in the nearly 30 years since. This multi-decade sustainable farming effort and slow, meticulous processes create mezcals of unparalleled purity.
Produced in San Agustín de Las Juntas, Oaxaca, each maguey's natural essence and flavors shine through because they are cooked in a steam autoclave (not a fire pit, which adds smokiness). Then, the maguey is naturally fermented in open stainless steel vats and double-distilled: first in stainless steel, then slowly refined in copper pot stills. Bottled by hand in small batches, our mezcals capture Oaxaca's traditional craftsmanship and rich, complex terroir.
